Kinosaki vs Arima

Kinosaki is a walkable willow-lined town where guests stroll between seven public bathhouses in yukata, and many small inns have free private baths. Arima is closer to Osaka and Kobe, with iron-rich 'gold' and clear 'silver' springs and more upscale inns with in-room baths.

Getting there

Kinosaki is about 2 hours 20 minutes from Kyoto on the Kinosaki limited express and about 2 hours 40 minutes from Osaka on the Konotori. Arima is about an hour from Osaka by direct bus and 30 to 40 minutes from Sannomiya.

Tips

Winter crab season fills Kinosaki early. Arima suits a short break within a Kansai trip. See the Kinosaki free private bath list and onsen near Osaka.
